Join Our Team:

At Coal Car Studio, we create social games and immersive experiences across Virtual Reality, Mixed Reality, PC, mobile, and emerging platforms. We are looking for an experienced Producer to help guide our growing slate of original games from development through launch.

Role Overview:

As Producer, you will work closely with the studio directors and multidisciplinary development team to turn creative, technical, and business priorities into clear and achievable production plans.

A major focus of the role will be supporting Fruit Golf, our asymmetric multiplayer VR game, as it exits Early Access and launches on new platforms. You will also help bring a new Mixed Reality title to market in fall 2026, support the development of a cross-play VR and PC co-op roguelite prototype, and contribute to R&D projects for emerging hardware and platforms.

You will manage schedules, track progress, identify risks, remove roadblocks, and help keep several projects moving at different stages of development. As part of a small independent studio, you will also support funding, partnerships, events, and other activities that help bring our projects to market. Because we are a small studio, this is a broad production role that extends beyond day-to-day development. The Producer may contribute to funding applications, partner communications, marketing, event planning, store submissions, and other studio priorities as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain project schedules, sprint plans, task backlogs, milestones, and documentation in Azure DevOps.
  • Work with directors and team leads to scope features, set priorities, and establish realistic deliverables.
  • Track progress across design, engineering, art, audio, QA, marketing, and release activities.
  • Facilitate stand-ups, planning meetings, project reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Prepare agendas, guide discussions toward decisions, document outcomes, and ensure owners and next steps are clearly established.
  • Identify risks and roadblocks early and work with the team to find practical solutions.
  • Coordinate platform submissions, certification, launch preparation, and post-release support.
  • Support project budgets, resource planning, and external partner deliverables.
  • Prepare project updates, milestone submissions, grant applications, and funding reports.
  • Attend meetings with publishers, platform holders, funding organizations, clients, and other partners.
  • Coordinate applications and materials for conferences, showcases, awards, store pages, and promotional opportunities.
  • Recommend practical improvements to production workflows and team communication.
  • This role requires a high degree of initiative and comfort working through ambiguity. You will often be responsible for identifying missing decisions, gathering input, and proposing a practical path forward.
  • The successful candidate will be comfortable building lightweight systems, improving incomplete workflows, and introducing structure without adding unnecessary overhead.

Qualifications:

  • Experience shipping a commercial game or interactive product.
  • Previous production, project management, or development management experience in games, software, technology, or interactive media.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and managing overlapping priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong understanding of game development workflows across design, engineering, art, audio, QA, and release.
  • Experience creating and maintaining schedules, project plans, budgets, and status reports.
  • Familiarity with Agile and Scrum methodologies, with the judgment to adapt processes to the needs of a small team.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to turn broad creative and technical goals into clear, actionable tasks.
  • A collaborative and supportive approach to working with creative and technical teams.
  • A degree or diploma in game development, business, production, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.

Preferred:

  • Experience working at a small independent studio.
  • Experience with VR, AR, mixed reality, or other emerging platforms.
  • Experience supporting multi-platform releases, certification, localization, or live updates.
  • Familiarity with Unity, Azure DevOps, and Git.
  • Experience with multiplayer, cross-play, PC, mobile, or standalone VR development.
  • Experience working with publishers, platform holders, external partners, or public funding organizations.
  • Experience preparing grant applications, funding reports, project budgets, or milestone submissions.

Location:

This is a remote position open to candidates within Canada. We are prioritizing candidates based in British Columbia, with a preference for those located in Vancouver or the surrounding area. Candidates must be available during working hours that overlap with our Vancouver-based team. Occasional in-person meetings, events, or project activities may be required.

Compensation:

We offer a competitive salary ($70,000 - $90,000), 3 weeks vacation + winter holiday closure, competitive group benefits.

How to Apply:

Send us an email with your resume and a brief cover letter. Please include links to your LinkedIn profile, project credits, portfolio, or examples of games and interactive projects you have helped produce, where relevant. Tell us a little about your approach to production and why you are interested in joining Coal Car Studio.

About
Coal Car Studio

Coal Car Studio is an award-winning Vancouver-based team passionate about immersive technology and pioneering new ways to play together. Having worked in the XR industry since 2015, we believe this technology is the future. We design and develop a mix of games, educational and enterprise experiences, and brand activations, but our passion is gaming. The more social, the better.

While based in Vancouver, we support a hybrid work environment with team members distributed around the globe. We are an equal opportunity employer with a diverse, talented team. We pride ourselves on having an open, honest, and supportive culture that puts our team’s wellbeing above all.

We are looking for smart, creative individuals to help craft immersive experiences and make the world a better place.

Fruit Golf is an asymmetrical virtual reality (VR) game where golf balls are replaced by fruit and your friends rain terror down on the course as you putt. Have you ever imagined what it would be like to whack a watermelon, pineapple, or star fruit with a golf club? Well, Fruit Golf can’t promise the most realistic physics, but each fruit has its own unique way of sliding, bouncing, wobbling, and rolling down the course.

VR can be a very isolating experience – now it doesn’t have to be. Fruit Golf brings the zany course out of the headset and into your friends’ hands where they can directly manipulate the world around you through a free companion app. The golfer will try to navigate courses such as pirate ships besieged by a Kraken, the castle of the vampiric blood orange, or the solar system where all the planets are fruit, and the moon is a banana. In the meanwhile, the players outside VR will coordinate their assault to make it as difficult as possible for the golfer to reach the hole. Some obstacles are simple blockades, others explode launching the fruit out of bounds, while others require teamwork. Take for instance the simple windup mouse, all alone it will simply patrol a section of the course, but if a fellow saboteur drops a piece of cheese, not even a wayward pineapple can stop the mouse from reaching its prize.

Solo players will also be able to play all the courses with or without obstacles, as well as hone their skills in a variety of challenge levels. The challenge levels will force the player to take a break from the frenetic never stopping action of the multiplayer mode and focus on making the perfect shot and solve the puzzle of each challenge course tailored to quirks of every fruit. Given all this, Fruit Golf is a whole fruit basket worth of fun!
