Coffee Moth Games is looking for a creature artist who connects with Folk-Tography and would enjoy an ongoing creative relationship with our small, collaborative indie team.

The role

You’ll turn provided concept sheets into finished, textured, rigged, and animated characters and creatures for Folk-Tography. Your focus will be stylized, nonhuman characters and cryptids, with flexibility to work across different creature shapes and anatomies. Our style is cute, cozy, and relatively low-poly, with an emphasis on appealing shapes, personality, and natural movement.

You will model and UV-unwrap creatures in Blender, create textures that match the game’s style, build rigs with clean deformation, animate gameplay actions, and deliver organized, editable source files and exports.

Modeling, UV unwrapping, rigging, and animation must all be done in Blender. Texturing proficiency is also required; Substance Painter or other texturing tools are welcome. Blender add-ons are encouraged. Unity import and setup experience is a bonus. The current scope does not call for complex facial animation, fur simulations, or elaborate physics setups.

Engagement

  • $15 USD/hour, up to 8 paid hours per week.
  • Initial 30-day paid freelance contract; start as soon as possible.
  • Flexible schedule, with collaboration through Discord.
  • Remote; U.S.-based applicants strongly preferred. International applicants may be considered depending on time-zone overlap and payment arrangements.
  • Game credit and permission to show released work in your portfolio.

We hope to build an ongoing collaboration that can expand if funding and fit allow. Continued work or increased hours cannot be promised. Specific deliverables, schedules, and revision terms will be agreed in the contractor agreement.

Who should apply

Artists interested in Folk-Tography who can demonstrate organic modeling, texturing, rigging, and animation skills. Students, self-taught artists, and early-career applicants are welcome. Your work matters more than professional experience.

Apply through the application form

The form contains the full role details and application questions. Submit your portfolio, a finished textured creature/character example, a rigging/animation example, and a brief note about your interest in the project. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Please apply through the form, not by email.

About
Coffee Moth Games

Hi, we're Coffee Moth! We've spent over a decade making other people's games, from AAA to licensed to VR. Coffee Moth is where we make our own.

We're a small indie studio, and right now we're sending people into the woods with cameras to hunt for cryptids. Folk-Tography is out in Early Access, so grab a flashlight and a friend or three.

Folk-Tography is a four-player co-op cryptid photography extraction game, out now in Steam Early Access. Players venture into Folk Valley with cameras, investigate strange phenomena, and try to make it home with photographic evidence.
