S.F. or Remote
Elsewhere is hiring a Game UI/UX Designer to help bring eye-popping, functional interfaces to projects in our game universe. We’re a venture-backed indie studio working on a surreal roguelike set inside your own dreaming mind. We aim for the project to combine the unique art and soul of a stellar indie title with the strategic depth and replayability of roguelikes, ultimately becoming a forever-game that reaches millions of players.
This role will completely own the UI and UX for a particular project, from smooth animations that make actions feel responsive to clear visual hierarchies that guide players through complex decisions. You’ll work closely with our game design team to ensure that the user experience is a core pillar of the player experience, crafting intuitive and beautiful interfaces that elevate every moment of gameplay.
This position is for a 6 week contract. Work will be about 10-20 hrs/week depending on business needs. If things go well, more work may be available in the future.
Location
Our team works in-person out of a beautiful converted industrial space in the Mission District here in San Francisco, CA. Being located in the area is a big plus, but not strictly necessary.
Qualifications
- You love games deeply and have strong opinions about what makes game interfaces truly memorable. Strong candidates will be deeply familiar with PC/Console games with gorgeous and functional interfaces like Persona 5, Slay the Spire and Hades as well as mobile games like Marvel Snap and Monopoly GO!
- You've shipped at least one game (indie or AAA) and can point to specific UI/UX elements you owned from concept to completion in your portfolio.
- You have experience designing interfaces that work seamlessly across web, mobile, and desktop platforms.
- You're an expert in Figma and have experience creating responsive designs that maintain both beauty and functionality across different screen sizes.
- HTML/CSS implementation experience is a significant plus—we love designers who can bring their visions to life.
- You love games and the culture surrounding them. You’ve played more games than you can count across genres. Bonus points if you’re a fan of tabletop or deckbuilding games.
- You’re enthusiastic or at least open-minded about the ways the latest generative AI technologies can augment (but not replace) creative talent, and ideally have opinions about which tools are the most helpful.
- You're ambitious. You want to be an early part of something big. Something with massive potential that players are going to absolutely love. You want to work with a game studio that pushes the envelope of games as a medium.
- You're collaborative. You're excited to work closely with our founder, game artists, game engineers, and more to create a unified vision.
We have a deep bench of talent from diverse backgrounds and have been backed by top Silicon Valley investors. We’re an idealistic team that loves video games and deeply believes in their potential: both as a creative medium and as a way for us to socialize and play together.
