Floaty is looking for a Technical Artist to own how our games feel. You'll build the VFX, shaders, and moment-to-moment polish that make an action land, the hit, the shake, the flash, the pause, and keep all of it running smoothly on mobile.

VFX

  • Create real-time VFX for gameplay, characters, environments, and UI
  • Build hit effects, impacts, explosions, abilities, and transitions
  • Use effects to make actions readable and satisfying
  • Keep effects light enough to run on mid-range phones

Shaders & Materials

  • Write and set up shaders for characters, environments, and effects
  • Build stylized looks: outlines, dissolves, glows, and flashes
  • Create materials that hold one consistent look across a game
  • Balance visual quality against mobile performance

Game Feel & Polish

  • Own game feel: hit stop, screen shake, camera behavior, timing, and feedback
  • Tune animation timing and transitions so actions feel responsive
  • Add polish to UI: button feedback, reward moments, and transitions
  • Work with sound so audio and visuals land together
  • Prototype feel changes quickly and test them in the game

Performance & Pipeline

  • Profile and optimize effects, shaders, and scenes for mobile
  • Set budgets for effects and keep the game inside them
  • Build small tools and setups that make art faster to get into the game
  • Help keep the art pipeline clean and repeatable

Collaboration & Iteration

  • Work closely with artists, game designers, and developers in Unity
  • Turn design intent into something that reads and feels right on screen
  • Iterate based on playtesting and feedback
  • Contribute ideas that raise the overall quality bar

What we're looking for

  • 3+ years as a technical artist or VFX artist in games, or a strong reel
  • Strong real-time VFX skills in Unity, using particle systems or VFX Graph
  • Comfortable writing shaders with Shader Graph or HLSL
  • Strong understanding of game feel and why an action feels good or flat
  • Solid understanding of mobile performance and optimization
  • Comfortable working between art and code
  • Good sense of timing, color, and visual quality
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to take ownership and iterate quickly

Nice to have

  • Basic C# scripting
  • Experience with rigging or animation systems
  • Experience with URP and render pipeline setup
  • Experience building tools or editor scripts in Unity
  • Motion graphics background
  • A reel showing before-and-after polish work
