Game Department is a teeny tiny indie studio working on our first game, a third-person stealth detective video game.
We’re currently working on a vertical slice of gameplay in blockout form to make sure the game is actually fun and good. Your first project will be an environment art pass on sections of this level to help us figure out our pipeline, workflow, limitations, budget, and all sorts of other things that will let us move into fuller production. After that, we’ll move on to building out the rest of our game!
Since we are such a small team, and it’s our first game, we’re looking for someone who is comfortable helping us navigate the ambiguity of what to do next, and who is excited about trying new things, iterating, and creating something really special and cool.
This is a fully remote hourly paid freelance/contract position. If it works out, it could be a fairly long-term contract working on a significant amount of the game, or future games if this one does well enough to allow us to continue making awesome games.

About the game
The game is a third-person detective stealth game with RPG elements, set in a fantastical, lived-in sci-fi future.
You play as a world-weary middle-aged private eye as he uncovers a mystery on the gritty streets of a war-scarred neighborhood on a planet at the center of a tenuous peace accord.
The gameplay features tricky deductions and Hitman-style social stealth gameplay. You’ll interview suspects, sneak around restricted areas to find clues, knock people out, build a case, make friends and enemies, and talk your way out of impossible situations.
