Seeking Mid/Senior Retro Computer (70’s/80’s) Game Artist (Concept Screens & Asset Creation)

About Us:

Misfits Attic is the award winning indie studio behind Duskers and A Virus Named TOM. We’re working on our next titles and need your help!

About You:

We are seeking a talented artist to help us define the look and style of an unannounced project. This project will have a lo-fi aesthetic similar to our last title Duskers, using a 70’s/80’s retro look (think glitchy, old, bright vector graphics on black background, or similar vibe to Duskers, akin to old computer games on a CRT from the 70’s and 80’s). The game will have a bit of a horror slant to it.

The artist will need to create and iterate on a concept screenshot, then break out elements into assets that can be integrated into the game. Currently, we're working in 3D but with a design (and characters) that looks primarily 2D with some simple dynamic/3D elements. So 2D, 3D, or a mixture of the two could work. Ideally characters would also be created, but we could refine character details later with a character artist.

Characters will need to be recognizable when small on screen, which likely lends itself to a somewhat graphic look.

Preference will be given to those that demonstrate this or a similar style in their portfolio.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the creative director and team to define the look of the game.
  • Create and iterate on concept screens, eventually breaking down into high-quality art assets.
  • Develop and refine the visual style, ensuring it aligns with the game's concept and tone.

Requirements:

  • Strong portfolio showcasing your artistic skills and previous work.
  • Experience in creating both concept screens, and game assets.
  • Proficiency in digital art tools (e.g., Photoshop or similar software).
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage your time effectively.
  • Can start soon and work quickly

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Experience in creating character designs.
  • Unity Experience (scenes, lighting, texturing)

Additional Details:

  • Flexible working hours.
  • Fully remote.
  • Short term initial contract, with the hope of a longer term collaboration.

How to Apply:

Please send us an email with a link to your portfolio and a brief introduction.

In Duskers you pilot drones into derelict spaceships to find the means to survive and piece together how the universe became a giant graveyard.

A perfect place. A city without traffic. A dog that doesn't poop. All products of the brilliant mind of Dr. X, but hell hath no fury like a mad scientist fired by a giant corporation. In this unique action-puzzler you take control of TOM, a virus created for one purpose: revenge.
