Do you know how to…
If so, we’d love to talk!
We’re looking for a writer who’s enthusiastic and well-versed in both writing for mobile games and writing in the romance genre, to help us create a mobile game all about love, friendship, and what is surely the most unusually eventful apartment in the city…
We’re looking for someone to work with us in a contract role, remotely, 4-5 days per week ideally, from now until spring 2024.
Responsibilities
You’ll write all kinds of in-game content, but primarily ‘dates’ - chapters of our main NPCs’ stories. We aspire to create very compelling romance content and we take the importance of narrative in our game very seriously. We particularly care a lot about:
You’ll primarily work from outlines and story bibles but may have the opportunity to pitch characters and stories from scratch.
In addition to (what on mobile would be called) long-form stories, you’ll probably also work on dialogue, barks, etc. You’ll also help edit other work and you may be asked to help input/script stories.
You’ll be using in-house tools which we’re building alongside our game, so you must be flexible when it comes to tooling.
Qualifications
About us
We’re a small, passionate, diverse team that makes games inspired by classic roleplaying experiences. We’ve previously built a platform for playing tabletop roleplaying games, as well as digital adaptations of some of our favorite pen-and-paper games, like Blades in the Dark and Yazeba’s Bed & Breakfast. We have big ambitions for this game and we’re seeking to bring both mechanical depth and excellent writing and art to the romance genre on mobile!
How to apply
Please send us an email with your resume and a writing sample. Please make sure the writing sample features both dialogue and narration, and showcases a strong relationship (platonic, romantic, etc.).
Optionally, to help us get a sense of your work, you can submit a brief response to this prompt:
Please write a conversation between the unspecified Player Character and the main NPC love interest. You’re writing for a mobile CYA experience, so consider line length accordingly. The NPC love interest is a rival law firm associate who has just stolen a case from the Player Character, early in the first act. The story is a dramatic, mostly light-hearted rivals-to-lovers tale, inspired by cable legal dramas and a story-of-the-week procedural format. Don’t go beyond 8 lines (each) max, but give us a sense of the couple’s chemistry and the NPC’s appeal.
At One More Multiverse we're making the next generation of tabletop RPGs. We are a group of passionate game devs, engineers, designers, storytellers, and artists. Our goal is not only to build a totally new kind of platform, but also a new kind of game company.
We want to be good people that make great games. That means walking that tough line of holding ourselves accountable and pushing ourselves, without burning out. We build our culture to be a place where we want to work. We will continue to build a diverse team, and give them incredible opportunities, room to grow, and strong support.
The Vision
As a team we have two main goals:
1) Grow the number of people who play tabletop RPGs
We think tabletop roleplaying games can be one of the most fun things in the world, but they can be so hard to get into and maintain. We want to make things easier by turning them from something you play in your head to something you play like a video game, online and with your friends. We think 10x more people could be playing tabletop games if only they had a few more modern conveniences.
2) Enable people to make a living making tabletop games
That said, there's no end to the creativity and imagination of people who make tabletop games and content. We think that if we 10x the number of people playing ttrpgs, creators should be the first to benefit.
Multiverse is built from day-one to have a marketplace where creators can make and sell games, characters, art, stories and more. We want people to be earning a living making content on Multiverse.
Our Culture
Our goal is not only to build a totally new kind of platform, but also a new kind of game company. We're fortunate to be well-funded and backed by some of the best investors in the industry, who have funded (or founded!) companies like Twitch, TSM, Oculus and PubG. We will continue to build a diverse team, and give them incredible opportunities, room to grow, and strong support. We want to be the best job any of us have ever had. That means:
