We are in the final stages of securing funding and are eager to begin our candidate search, especially given the critical impact of this role in the early stages of the project. However, we will not make any official offers until our publisher and developer contracts are fully signed.

 

PolarityOne is developing a 4-player cooperative VR shooter with a solid early foundation, including a playable demo that showcases the work we’ve put in so far. Exoshock features a visually distinctive style, visceral sound design, dynamic AI behavior, and incredibly satisfying gun handling.

This is a paid, full-time position. We need a key player for a small, agile team that’s aiming to redefine the future of VR multiplayer gaming. The job title is “Multiplayer Technical Engineer”, but you'll be a full-fledged core member, so your ideas and innovations will directly influence all aspects of the game. We’re driven by a shared passion for pushing the boundaries of immersive gaming and creating captivating, genre-defining experiences. We’re looking for someone who gets energized by problem solving and who doesn’t see creativity as the sole province of artists.

 

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Annual Compensation: $120,000 gross as a 1099 contractor.
  • Remote Work: This is a fully remote position during the development of Exoshock. However, should the game launch to commercial success, we’d love to have the team establish an onsite office (probably either in Denver or Seattle).
  • Equipment Provided: Development Rig Stipend and VR Hardware provided to ensure you have the best tools for the job.
  • Job Security: Development is funded for one year, with future endeavors following a successful launch of Exoshock. 
  • Equity: After your first year, you will have the opportunity to transition into a co-ownership role with an equity vesting schedule.

 

Core Responsibility: Multiplayer Specialist

As a key member of our team, you’ll be responsible for:

  • Designing and implementing a scalable multiplayer networking architecture for cross-platform integration, including PC, console, and VR platforms.
  • Developing and validating robust network replication for player character movements, actions, and VOIP systems.
  • Ensuring seamless VOIP synchronization across all platforms.
  • Implementing platform-specific systems for frameworks like Steam, Oculus/Meta Quest, and others.
  • Identifying and resolving technical challenges related to core platform development.
  • Refining player interaction systems for both VR and non-VR players.
  • Designing and implementing a basic matchmaking system for a smooth player experience.

 

Required Qualifications:

Hard Skills:

  • Proficiency in C++.
  • Understanding of multiplayer replication principles.
  • Prior experience developing multiplayer games.
  • Experience with network debugging and optimization.
  • Familiarity with source control tools like Git or Perforce.

Soft Skills:

  • Eagerness to learn new platforms, tools, and technologies.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a small, dynamic team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

 

Awesome To Have:

Familiarity with:

  • Unreal Engine.
  • Cross-platform multiplayer games.
  • Platform-specific APIs (e.g., Steam, Oculus SDK, PlayStation Network).
  • VR-specific interaction paradigms.
  • Latency compensation techniques.
  • Load testing and performance optimization.
  • Spatial audio integration.
  • Animation networking.
