🧠 The Role

To accelerate both engine features and gameplay systems, we’re looking for an experienced programmer to expand the engine’s core functionality, including further development of our netcode.

This role is a strong fit for someone comfortable working in an evolving production environment, who can think beyond their discipline when needed.

 

🎯 What You’ll Do

  • Extend and maintain our proprietary C# engine.
  • Work on our custom UDP multiplayer networking solution at all levels of abstraction.
  • Architect, implement & refactor core engine functionality from scratch.
  • Focus on long-term code maintainability and modularity.
  • Enhance and further develop our multiplayer netcode.

 

🛠️ Must-Haves

  • Strong professional experience in designing and working with UDP-based server-authoritative multiplayer architectures.
  • Understanding of low-level performance characteristics (cache behavior, memory locality, allocation patterns, virtual dispatch costs) and ability to apply this knowledge in real-world systems.
  • Confident communicator, able to articulate technical decisions and engage in constructive, peer-level discussions and design reviews.
  • Conversational English proficiency and a reliable, professional remote work setup (stable internet, suitable game development environment).
  • At least 3 years of work experience.

 

✨ Bonus Points

  • Experience working with voxel-based systems.
  • Hands-on experience shipping one- or multiple titles.
  • Experience in smaller teams and fast-moving production environments.
  • Familiarity with UGC and/or live-service games.

 

⏰ Timeline & Compensation

  • Start: ASAP
  • Employment type: Full-time, employee or contracted
  • Probation: 3 months.
  • Rate: Starting USD $60,000 per year (negotiable with experience).
  • Location: CET, Fully Remote.

How we work

We care about doing things the right way. Sunfox Studios takes a standard approach to internal development. We work in an agile, sprint-based workflow (scrum-like), with an international team operating full-time on flexible schedules (Monday-Friday).

Our focus is on building reliable systems and ensuring that development remains stable and scalable over the long term as we increase team size. We place emphasis on clean code architecture, clear documentation, and consistent standards/workflows to keep iteration efficient and forward-moving.

As we strive for the long-term, this approach allows the studio to scale production without losing control of quality, velocity, or long-term maintainability.
