We’re excited to welcome a Technical Game Designer to our small but passionate team! You’ll work side-by-side with programmers, designers, and artists to build systems, tackle problems, and shape mechanics that are fun for players. We’re a lean studio, so your ideas and contributions will have a real impact right from day one.

Must Haves

  • At least 3 years of professional game design experience, especially with systems design
  • Proven coding/scripting background (C#, Lua, Python, or similar)
  • A proven history of taking systems from early concept all the way to post-production
  • Strong understanding of core game design principles
  • Comfortable communicating in conversational English

Bonus Skills

  • Experience working in custom engines or unusual toolchains
  • Familiarity with visual scripting or node graph workflows
  • Comfortable working with Lua and JSON for content creation
  • Hands-on engine work from the implementation side (integrating assets, features, or data)
  • Background in sandbox, survival, or UGC-driven games
  • Strong grasp of UGC workflows and how to design systems that empower creators
  • Experience designing and balancing creatures or other gameplay content
  • Confident with spreadsheets (Excel, Google Sheets) and using formulas for balancing/tuning

What You’ll Do

  • Design and implement gameplay systems from the first idea to production-ready
  • Write and maintain structured data (like JSON) and light scripts to support features
  • Prototype and test mechanics to make sure they’re fun and technically feasible
  • Work closely with programmers and designers to balance scope, cost, and player impact
  • Write, update, and maintain clear Game Design Documents (GDDs) the whole team can use
  • Document systems in a way that makes sense across design, art, and engineering
  • Spot and fix edge cases so systems stay stable even under weird player behavior
  • Help improve workflows and pipelines in a small, lean, collaborative team

Timeline & Compensation

  • Start: ASAP
  • Contract: Freelance / contractor, full‑time
  • Probation: 3 months
  • Rate: Minimum USD $45,000 per year (negotiable with experience)
  • Location: Fully Remote in CET Core Hours

How to Apply:

Resume or cover letter should be in PDF format.

About
Sunfox Studios

At Sunfox Studios, we understand the games and players we build for, because we’re a part of that world ourselves.

We’re a tight-knit indie team building a Survival Sandbox game within our own C#-based engine.

As a team, we are guided by a deep understanding of the community we build for, shaped by years of direct engagement with large, active player bases. If you care about making a great experience, and want to help shape something with real effort behind it, we’d love to chat.

How we work

We care about doing things the right way. Sunfox Studios takes a standard approach to internal development. We work in an agile, sprint-based workflow (scrum-like), with an international team operating full-time on flexible schedules (Monday-Friday).

Our focus is on building reliable systems and ensuring that development remains stable and scalable over the long term as we increase team size. We place emphasis on clean code architecture, clear documentation, and consistent standards/workflows to keep iteration efficient and forward-moving.

As we strive for the long-term, this approach allows the studio to scale production without losing control of quality, velocity, or long-term maintainability.
