At Tanglewood Games, we help some of the world’s leading game studios solve difficult technical problems. Our engineers embed directly into client teams, providing expertise across rendering, optimisation, engine systems, tools and performance.

We’re looking for a Senior Rendering Engineer to join our growing engineering team.

You’ll have experience with

  • Developing rendering systems in Unreal Engine.
  • Profiling and optimising GPU performance.
  • Solving complex graphics and rendering problems.
  • Working directly with client teams.
  • Helping others make informed technical decisions around rendering.

You’ll be familiar with

  • Unreal Engine’s rendering architecture.
  • Lumen, Nanite and Virtual Shadow Maps.
  • Upscaling and frame generation technologies such as DLSS, FSR and XeSS.
  • Modern graphics APIs such as DirectX 12 or Vulkan.
  • Graphics debugging and profiling tools such as RenderDoc, PIX or Unreal Insights.
  • Shader development using HLSL.
  • Rendering across PC and console platforms.

You’ll enjoy this role if

  • You like working across different projects rather than spending years on the same title.
  • You enjoy getting to grips with unfamiliar codebases.
  • You like working alongside other experienced Unreal Engine developers.
  • You enjoy becoming part of client teams and helping them solve difficult technical problems.

Why We Share Salaries Up Front

At Tanglewood, we believe salary transparency is essential to fairness. We know that people often undervalue themselves when negotiating their salary, and those numbers can shape the trajectory of their entire career. That’s why we’re transparent about what we pay. By removing ambiguity around compensation, we help people focus on doing great work, not guessing their worth.

Senior £68,500

Principal £80,500

  • Discretionary annual bonus scheme
  • Private Healthcare with Vitality.

  • 25 days Annual Leave + discretionary festive closure
  • Additional days for learning and volunteering.
  • Life assurance

What to Expect

The interview process is done remotely and is generally made up of two stages:

  • Technical interview (45-60 minutes) – A formal interview with our technical hiring managers. This will be a chance for us to get to know each other and discuss your development experience and ambitions in detail. We prefer this to be in the form of a discussion rather than a formal coding exam, but you may be asked to complete some exam questions if the role and level demand it.
  • Final interview (45-60 minutes) – A final interview with our company directors or members of our management team. This will be a chance for you to get to know the senior management team and all the things that make us unique. You will have a lot of opportunities to ask any questions about the studio and culture.
