Secret Games Co is a British game studio founded in 2012. We’re a small but experienced team working on our 5th game (and starting our 6th). We make strategy games that offer players something meaningfully different from what they can find elsewhere. Everybody on our team contributes ideas. We have secure funding and we’ve never cancelled a project.

Qualifications
We are looking for a programming generalist, who shares our passion for making innovative strategy games. You would join a very small team, who all own their part of the development process and feel a real sense of authorship over the finished products. We work almost entirely with 2D assets so 3D skills are not required. We’re open-minded about what sort of candidate would be a good fit for us but here’s one example of a profile we’d love to receive an application from…
Formerly of Amplitude Studios, our imagined candidate spent the last 4 years working on Humankind. She loved the work but was eager for something new after so long working on the same title. Amplitude valued her commitment to the project and offered her Lead Programmer on a new game but it was time for a change; she moved back to Bordeaux to be nearer family. Her hope was to find a 4 day/week role so she could spend Wednesdays with her kids.
Growing up, her game design hero was Sid Meier but some of her favourite design ideas came from tabletop. She started thinking about how a board game manual is like human-readable code and she got curious about Unity. Sure enough, it wasn’t that hard to bring strategy game systems to life in a game engine and she got hooked on all the amazing stuff Unity could do. Years later, she could comfortably call herself a Unity expert and a game dev pro.
She saw this job listing and remembered wishlisting Ozymandias on Steam. She downloaded it and loved how it condensed 4X without squeezing the life out of it. She thought about how the code was able to resolve each turn quickly and how the AI was competitive without cheating. For a relatively low budget game, it seemed like an impressive effort and she decided to apply.
First, she read up on Secret Games Co online, watched a bunch of YouTube videos, snooped a bit on LinkedIn… Ok she was ready. She wrote a cover letter that explained both why she wanted to work at Secret Games Co and why she would be able to add a lot of value on the team. She got a reply the same week, had calls with the core team members and, of course, got offered the job. She could tell she’d be working at Secret Games Co for a long time 🎉
If you’ve read this far, you’ve already shown admirable determination. Please apply by email with the subject line Programmer Application. There is no deadline to apply, we are always looking for talented programmers. Thank you for considering Secret Games Co!
At the dawn of history, Bronze Age kings built the first empires. Strategize their rise to power in Ozymandias, a uniquely streamlined 4X. Expand your borders, build cities in tactical locations then raise armies to defend them. Each turn, you receive opportunities but must choose only one, complete the objective to earn the reward. Random victory conditions make every game different; custom victory conditions support different styles of play.
