Two Muffins is looking for a 2D Artist/Generalist to join us and help us complete our game Twist-tac-toe. This role involves working closely with the team to envisage, research, and produce striking 2D visuals and UI, and to help us reach our artistic goals. You will be the founding game artist on this team, and will be involved from concept art through to delivery.
If you love designing outstanding, dynamic 2D game visuals and delightful UI experiences, then this is a great job for you.
This is a three-month position, either fixed-term full-time employment or contract, by candidate preference. This role is on-site in Sydney, Australia, but we will consider remote roles for outstanding candidates. Two Muffins works a four-day week.
We welcome applications from people who don’t quite fit this job description but think that they have something exciting to contribute to our game.
The Game
Twist-Tac-Toe is a competitive strategic game with the “easy to learn” but “hard to master” vibe of checkers or chess, aimed at short to medium length games. A variety of play modes are planned to bring new challenges to players. The game is targeted for release in mid-to-late 2025.
What you will do?
- Design the style, look, and feel of the game. Help define the game’s style and identity, from menus and backgrounds through to key game element feel and design – everything that supports the player having a delightful visual experience.
- Bring it to life: collaborate with our engineers to realise your designs in the game.
- Additionally: contribute to creation of logos, icons, and artwork for promotional material.
Who are you?
- A junior through to senior 2D artist with experience in visual design, UI/UX, and game interfaces.
- Someone who can come up with original design ideas, both independently and via collaboration with team members.
Required skills
- Creative problem-solving skills.
- Solid understanding of form, composition and layout.
- Create and export high-quality vector and bitmap 2D artwork that meets given specifications.
- Create sketches, mockups, wireframes and interactive prototypes as part of a collaborative design process.
- Demonstrated proficiency in tools such as Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator, Affinity Designer, or similar.
Desired skills
- UI/UX experience is a strong plus.
- 2D Animation or motion graphics design experience (such as UI special effects and “juice”) is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with tools such as Unity or Unreal, or general technical problem-solving skills (the ability to get things done with the tools at hand).
- Keen to work in a small team with varied responsibilities and opportunities to learn.
- Proficiency in communicating your ideas to people in other disciplines.
- Willingness to take ownership of tasks and drive them to the agreed definition of done.
