We are VoxRay Games, a small game studio working on a raytraced voxel game with FPS/RPG/Survival elements! Check out early visuals on Twitter or Steam.

We are looking for a Marketing/Socials/Community Manager that can help us bring our game to a large audience.

What you will be responsible for

We are aware that these are often 3 distinct roles at larger companies, but we are a small indie team where they would work better unified in 1 person, as there are many ways they affect each other:

  • Marketing
    • Run paid marketing campaigns.
    • Build connections with media and streamers to produce content around our game.
    • Work with PR firms to organize blasts around releases and other major events.
    • (Possibly) run a kickstarter campaign.
  • Socials
    • Post on a variety of social networks in a way fitting to those social networks, including responses.
    • Follow development of the game, producing content such as videos and screenshots for use on social media.
  • Community Management
    • You keep our users engaged on e.g. Discord and the Steam forums, and look for ways to grow the audience there.
    • Summarize and organize user desires as possible features and content for the team to work on.
    • Organize events targeted at our community, such as world building competitions.
    • As you answer questions, larger topics may grow into articles on our public wiki, where you could also create tutorials and other things you sense there is a demand for.

Some of these will require a budget, up to you to find the “best bang for the buck” in terms of what to spend it on!

What we’re looking for

We’d expect someone with solid experience in at least one of the above areas with motivation to do a good job at the others!

Being self-driven is highly important, as the development team will not always be prodding you “hey you should do some content related to X”, we’re looking for someone who is always on the lookout for the next most impactful thing to spend their time on.

Being a “people person” really helps too, as you’ll be interacting with a variety of devs, users, and media to make things happen.

How this game is different from other games you may have worked on.

Our game has a big emphasis on creativity, and the ability for users to build their own worlds, so “community” will play a larger role than most games out there.

How to apply

The most important thing for us to see in an application is indications of your passion and deep experience with precisely the above kinds of work.

Job parameters

  • This job is fully remote.
  • Though in theory we welcome applications from anywhere in the world, we are a US based company. Applicants in non-US time zones would probably need to plan to be available core hours from 9AM Pacific Time (when many of our meetings start) onwards, to be able to work with others.
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills required.
  • We may offer full-time employment or hourly / contract basis, depending on location and other factors. Health insurance benefits is a possibility, particularly for US applicants.
  • Hourly rate / salary up for discussion, depending on experience and many other factors. Please let us know if there is a particular range you require.
  • This is ideally a full time position. That said, we have the culture that this does not need to mean exactly 40 hrs each week, particularly while you are working hourly: you should feel free to work less hours one week and more another, as your personal schedule, motivation, and other things require.
  • You’ll be joining a team of ~12 team members initially, a mix of full-time and part-time. We will likely grow further after you join.
  • Length of contract/employment cannot be fully guaranteed, but should be at least 1 year, hopefully much longer!
  • Tools we use:
    • We use a lot of in-engine tools for any world building.
    • MagicaVoxel for voxel art.
    • VSCode for gameplay code.
    • Git / GitHub <- used for all our issue tracking, wiki etc.
    • Discord for team chat and video meetings.
    • You will have to be using a Windows machine with a recent/fast GPU.
