Wolfjaw Studios is an engineering-focused video game studio based in Troy, New York, that was founded by a passionate team of developers with decades of experience. About the role

The Engineering discipline at Wolfjaw Studios is the heart of our teams, focusing on developing and improving the features we curate for our client partners.

We're involved in almost every aspect of development you can think of, with a focus on backend development for online game services.

Whatever the calling, we find the solution that our audience needs.

As a Software Engineer, you will work with a team of producers and engineers assisting with the development of client features, creation of robust documentation, and collaborating with internal and external teams to deliver new and exciting features to our clients.

 

Location:

This position has the opportunity to be fully remote, but for candidates local to Troy, NY a hybrid arrangement is possible.

The following states are eligible for remote work: Arizona, California, Georgia, Florida, Idaho, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, and Vermont.

 

What we are looking for:

  • Exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively within your team and with clients.
  • Experience with working in legacy codebases and being comfortable with exploratory work into the code base.
  • You have previous experience standing up backend services or experience with networking.
  • You are able to meaningfully contribute to discussions around architecture, design, and approach for any given technical problem within your realm of expertise.
  • You contribute to identifying dependencies and constraints, both in software development and across teams.
  • You are able to break down tasks into smaller, well defined tasks.
  • You are comfortable working with a team in a version control environment (Gitlab, Perforce, etc.).

 

Qualifications:

  • Passion for and understanding of the gaming industry.
  • Experience working in Python (both 2.7 and 3 preferred).
  • Experience with SQL.
  • Experience with Redis.
  • Experience with Linux/WSL.
  • Experience with deploying applications to AWS, either on EC2 directly or utilizing tools such as Kubernetes or ECS.
  • Experience working with distributed systems.
  • 2+ years of programming experience; can include but is not limited to paid, volunteer, project, and academic work.
  • Critical thinking, with the ability to adapt quickly to change, communicate impact, and align with the new direction.

 

Pluses:

  • Experience working with C++.
  • Game engine experience, specifically with Unreal Engine or proprietary game engines.
  • You have experience working within the games industry.
  • Exhibits learning agility; has the ability to think differently, and/or grasp and apply new skills and concepts.
  • Approaches problems in a clear, well-organized, and solutions-oriented manner.
  • Able to effectively communicate problems, solutions, needs, or priorities.

 

The ideal candidate will be a curious and enthusiastic self-starter who is interested in solving the unique challenges that games can have! You should be willing to put in the time to figure things out but at the same time not afraid to consult the rest of the team for help when you need it.

Engineering positions at Wolfjaw are full time (non-contract) W2, salaried roles. The standard base pay range for our Mid-to-Senior Level Software Engineers is between $85,000 - $115,000 USD annually, depending on level of experience and compatibility with our current needs.

This range is determined by an array of factors, including training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demands. Additionally, it is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
