Ironwood Studios is a Seattle based AA game studio that has recently shipped their first title, Pacific Drive. We’re looking for an experienced Unreal Gameplay Engineer to develop gameplay features and systems as we continue post-launch support of Pacific Drive and start work on future projects.

As a Gameplay Engineer, you'll collaborate with other engineers, game designers, producers, and QA testers to build and verify new features according to established specifications and designs. You'll be responsible for following each project’s technical direction and coding style guide.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Write code and build gameplay features in Unreal 4 in C++ and Blueprints.
  • Collaborate with gameplay designers to help develop new features, tooling to support content creation, and optimization of those systems to a shippable state.
  • Track your tasks and progress with Notion (or other task tracking software) with input from producers and QA testers.
  • Work alongside a highly collaborative team of artists, game designers, sound designers, producers, and QA testers to build gameplay features to established specifications and a high quality bar.
  • Test bugs, fix them, and validate those fixes across a range of platforms.
  • Own and track entire features from concept to completion.
  • Work efficiently and productively.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong knowledge of Unreal C++ and Blueprints.
  • Strong knowledge of Unreal Engine (4.0 and later) – engineers with only Unity experience will not be considered.
  • Experience with console and PC development, including multi-platform build/branch deployment strategies.
  • Experience collaborating with other disciplines on features and pipelines.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Eligible to work within the USA.

PREFERENCES:

  • Experience with Unreal Insights and the ability to deep dive into performance issues.
  • Experience in a gameplay engineering role where you worked on at least one console project through the entirety of its development (pre-production to post-launch).
  • Strong grasp of game feel and how engineering choices can impact it.
  • Pacific Standard Time (PST) zone or able to work PST hours.
  • A Computer Science degree is not required, but is an added bonus.

WHAT WE ARE OFFERING:

  • Job Type: Full Time Salary
  • Medical/Dental/Disability Benefits
  • Revenue sharing bonus structure
  • Paid sick and vacation time as well as paid holidays and studio week-long breaks
  • Opportunity to join a studio shortly after their first successful launch.
  • Onsite/hybrid in Redmond, WA (relocation aid is available if desired) or remote, with periodic travel requirements to Seattle, WA.
  • Pay Range: $100,000-$140,000 USD

About
Ironwood Studios

Ironwood Studios is a team full of people with a variety of backgrounds, beliefs, and experience from across the industry. Based in Seattle, WA (with some folks remote), we’re proud to be a studio that so many talented and wonderful individuals call home.

Since the start of the studio in late 2019, we’ve put a huge emphasis on the way we work. As a studio our goal from day one has been making games in a sustainable and healthy way for the people on the team. For our projects, we’ve invested heavily into tools and systems that let us build games bigger and faster. Creatively, we are driven forward with a passion for surreal settings and compelling gameplay. We believe the best stories are ones where the player's experiences and actions take a front seat in helping to tell them.

We’ve been hard at work on our debut title Pacific Drive, which launched on Steam, EGS, and PlayStation 5 on February 22nd 2024. From every part of Ironwood - Design, Production, Narrative, Engineering, Art, Audio and QA - We’re all happy to have you along for the journey and can’t wait for you to see more.
