We have an exciting opportunity for a talented, motivated Environment Art Outsourcing Supervisor to help drive environment art production for a new stylized fantasy IP!
Reporting to the Lead Art Outsourcing Supervisor, you’ll play a key role in managing the environment art pipeline and overseeing external environment art production. You will act as the primary point of contact between internal teams and external partners for environment art, ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality assets that align with the artistic vision and technical requirements.
This position is ideal for an artist with strong environment art expertise, excellent communication skills, and a passion for building creative relationships.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the environment art outsourcing process, ensuring communication clarity and asset quality with external studios and artists.
- Serve as the main point of contact for all environment art outsourcing activities, fostering strong creative and technical alignment between teams.
- Create and maintain documentation, visual references, and style guides to support external vendors in producing high-quality environment assets.
- Review and provide detailed feedback on all incoming environment art assets to ensure alignment with the project’s artistic and technical standards.
- Collaborate with the Lead Art Outsourcing Supervisor, Environment Art Director, and production teams to define environment art outsourcing needs, pipelines, and schedules.
- Track environment art asset progress, ensuring timely delivery and proper integration into the project pipeline.
- Assist in onboarding and managing external artists by sharing technical requirements and assigning tasks based on skill sets.
- Support the development of innovative workflows and ensure environment art assets maintain consistency with the fantasy genre’s style and quality expectations.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience as an environment artist in game development, with strong knowledge of 3D art production pipelines.
- Experience working with external art teams or vendors.
- Maya, Zbrush, Photoshop, and Substance Painter experience.
- Strong understanding of the environment art creation process including industry best standards for topology, uv mapping, normal map baking, polygonal subdivisions, etc.
- Organized and detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills.
- Passion for stylized fantasy games and visual storytelling.
Pluses
- Experience as an environment lead or supervising external art teams.
- Familiarity with the Unreal Engine and workflows for environment asset integration.
- Experience in creating assets for MMOs or mobile games.
- Familiar with task tracking tools like Trello or Jira.
- Teaching experience.
