We’re looking for someone to help us develop Lancer Tactics by creating visual effects for abilities & adding overall polish.
Responsibilities
Work with the Godot engine
- Proficient in the Godot editor
- Working with the node tree
- Particle emitters
- GDShaders
- Pull the most recent builds via git
Create VFX for abilities
- Attacks, projectiles, systems
- Combination of billboarded sprites, meshes, shaders, and particles
- Auras
- Shaders & materials on meshes
- Status effects
- Shaders & particles for sprite billboards
Environmental & overall visual polish
- Juicing it
- Lighting
- Holistic shaders such as outlines & X-ray silhouette effects
- Colors (see below)
- Map zones / overlays
- Fog-of-war outside-map areas
Working with the art director to dial in finalized color palettes for
- 3D environment textures
- 2D billboarded sprite colors
- Pilot portrait palettes
- UI colors (minor; insofar as to be better unified with the rest of the visuals)
Experienced contractor
- We’re looking for someone with experience working contracts with fixed budgets & delivering work of corresponding quality & speed. We have a fair amount of content to get through and a limited budget, so we need someone who can dial in on a style and a level of quality that can get through it all with the time and money that we have.
Bonus: Lancer content knowledge
- Ideally, you’re already familiar with the Lancer universe & have a sense of the aesthetics, technology level, and vibe of the tabletop game.
- Extra bonus if you’ve played some battles so know the utility of the basic abilities and how they’ll be used in-context.
Pay & Time
- We have about $15k budgeted for remaining VFX, total.
- We’d like to break that into 2-3 smaller contracts as we see how well you fit into the pipeline.
- We’re aiming to have this VFX content mostly locked in by the end of this year, so this work should be done in the next 5-6 months.

Be gay & do giant robot crimes. Lancer Tactics is a third-party adaptation of the Lancer TTRPG into a video game. It started as an excuse for me to learn Godot and to indulge my love of the Lancer system & universe, but garnered more interest than I expected so has spiraled out into a full game.
